Letter: Accountability should top agenda

The excellent article by Timothy Pratt and Dan Kulin about the Economic Opportunity Board was both informative and thought provoking ("EOB may be granted new life," March 14).

For the life of me, I cannot understand the continued payment of taxpayer funds to organizations as this that have existed for more than 40 years without the proper accountability.

The Economic Opportunity Board exists because of the political efforts of Las Vegas City Council member Lawrence Weekly and others who have their own agenda.

More money owed by the Economic Opportunity Board to Sprint than to Nevada Power raises eyebrows. Ikon Office Solutions seems to have an unusual interest in services.

The county took the correct approach in requiring some accountability by the Economic Opportunity Board, although I often wonder about giving money to someone who owes you in the hopes of getting part of it back.
