Letter: You can’t easily label president’s detractors

Thursday, March 16, 2006 | 6:51 a.m.

Regarding Russell Torneby's March 12 letter, in which he wrote that President Bush has been a success "at causing liberals to unflinchingly demonstrate that they are completely consumed by their hatred for him ...": The letter is an example of how politics, politicians, and spin doctors have used labels and characterizations to divide American citizens into categories of voters who will rubber stamp anything they are told by their group's leaders.

Not all "liberals" hate George Bush just as not all "conservatives" support him. I would consider myself liberal on issues of health care for all Americans and a war on poverty, and I am conservative on issues like the death penalty, immigration and incentives for businesses.

You can call me anything you want, but when it comes to evaluating the presidency of George W. Bush, you don't have to be a Democrat or a Republican, or liberal or conservative, to figure out that he has failed in every phase of his duties.
