Letter: Taking Roe to its extreme is alarming
Thursday, March 16, 2006 | 6:51 a.m.
What I am going to say is immoral to everything I believe. But as I do believe in the principle of equal protection under the law, I have no choice. Everything went wrong after 1973 when our esteemed and activist Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade.
Prior to that ruling, abortion was murder, but afterwards became the absolute right of the woman. A right that said in part that if the woman didn't want the responsibility of raising a child, she had the right to terminate that obligation.
But if we are to have equal protection under the law, what of the man? Is not the man also afforded the same right to say no? Why should a man be forced to accept a responsibility that a woman is not obligated to accept? From this point alone, we begin to see the absurdity of the entire Roe v. Wade argument.
