Letter: No respect for R-J, John L. Smith
Monday, March 13, 2006 | 7:18 a.m.
I used to think that John L. Smith was a decent guy, not anything like the family that owns the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Years ago after my husband came home from World War II, we decided to go to Las Vegas to see what the place was like. As is my wont I purchased a newspaper to get the tone of the city and you can imagine my disgust and the revolting feeling I got when I read the bigoted, disgusting and hateful Review-Journal. I took the newspaper back to the counter where I purchased it and said: "Take this disgusting rag run by a bigoted and hateful family. It is not a newspaper and I don't want it dirtying up my room!"
Now John L. Smith is in that category and I no longer respect him - too bad! The locals we met here were nice, decent people as we played golf with them on various golf courses and many others we met during our stay and after we moved here in 1984. Our daughter teaches school here.
It was after we got the Sun newspaper that we realized Las Vegas was not all bad and there was some hope for the city and its good people.
