Letter: Failing to provide for veterans is a mistake
Sunday, March 5, 2006 | 7:16 a.m.
President Bush is having one of the most terrible years of any Republican president since Richard Nixon. I am a veteran of Desert Storm and am very disgusted in the way Bush is handling the war in Iraq. Even though the federal deficit is astronomical, why is he thinking of cutting benefits for veterans, who have kept this country free since 1776?
How can he even think of cutting veterans benefits when he went to war with Iraq and did not listen to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on how to win this war and get out of Iraq and let the Iraqi military take over all future military operations?
Cutting veterans benefits is just not the right thing to do. Stop giving aid to countries who hate us and let charity begin at home.
The United States is a great country and the military has always done its job to keep our land free of tyranny from foreign countries.
I am a conservative Republican and I and millions of other Republicans are very disappointed in this Bush presidency.
