Letter: Summerlin residents don’t deserve free ride

While the rest of the residents of the Las Vegas Valley have been subjected to the noise of planes taking off and landing at the airports in Henderson, North Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base and McCarran International Airport, the denizens of Summerlin and the northwest, for reasons I have never seen given, have been spared this racket.

Now the Federal Aviation Administration, seeking to increase the volume of planes using McCarran, has proposed allowing planes taking off to fly over their special land. While I understand their annoyance over this inconvenience, I'm amazed that they can't see the sheer arrogance of their position. Why do they think that they deserve a no-fly zone such as our presidents enjoy?

McCarran has the terminals and runways, and it should be operated in the most efficient way. The more tourists who can visit here provide for a stable and growing job market, while providing increased tax revenue as well. If this means planes flying over the fiefdom of Summerlin, so be it. Let them experience the noise the rest of us have had to endure.
