FLASHPOINT for Marr 02, 2006

The chatter about the impact of governor's race has focused on who will raise taxes, who will reduce spending or who will turn back the clock on abortion. But that's the in-state buzz. Outside Nevada, the gubernatorial result is seen as potentially critical to the outcome of a much more significant contest: the 2008 presidential race. Roll Call's Lou Jacobson penned a piece this week that puts Nevada, among the 36 gubernatorial contests, in a category labeled "States with an outgoing Republican governor and a competitive open-seat race." In a state such as Nevada, red can become redder or red can fade to blue depending on who is leading the presidential campaign. Something to think about.
