Letter: Water Authority can take cue from Israel

Wednesday, June 28, 2006 | 7:24 a.m.

Regarding Maureen Peckman's June 24 column, "Israel is a good model for Nevada":

Not only is Israel a good model for Nevada when it comes to thwarting terrorist attacks, but it also is a good model for the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

It is a shame that Southern Nevada Water Authority General Manager Pat Mulroy does not seek a similar exchange with Israel's scientists. They have eased Israel's water shortage - not by exporting water from the northern reaches of the Golan Heights and Hula Valley to the thirsty, growing cities of Tel Aviv and Be'ersheva, but by using intelligent, affordable desalination.

As a resident of the Snake Valley in White Pine County, where the Southern Nevada Water Authority plans to drill more than two dozen wells, I would like to see all viable alternatives thoroughly explored before our water, and future, is sent downhill.
