In case you were wondering whether the Democrats really were serious about Regent Jill Derby's candidacy for Congress, wonder no more. Thursday evening at Caesars Palace a fundraiser will be held for Derby, who is running in the super-Republican 2nd District being vacated by Jim Gibbons. The event may raise six figures for the regent, who is doing a lot of adding to her bottom line while three GOP candidates subtract money from their bank accounts trying to kill each other. The host committee includes a chancellor, a former senator, legislative leaders, a congresswoman, a county commissioner, a happy mayor, a regent, influential lawyers and major donor types. Very impressive. Especially for a Northerner.
