Letter: Wisdom lies in knowing when the fight is over

Which is better - cut and run or stay and die?
It is amazing to see all these elected officials sitting in their air-conditioned offices, driving around in their chauffeur-driven cars, living in the best parts of the country in the best homes that "taxpayers" money can buy, telling us to "stay the course" while our children, fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers are over in a God-forsaken country where they are not wanted and have been slain just because they were representing America.
Put there through greed, ego and ignorance. Let the children of the people who occupy the offices in the White House volunteer for duty in Iraq. Let them become sitting ducks for the ungrateful, unwilling and inhumane to pick off at their will. Then see who would be willing to "cut and run"!
It wasn't easy, I'm sure, for the Russian leaders to finally admit defeat in Afghanistan. But how much different was their situation than those we face in Iraq?
