Letter: Heed the words of Teddy Roosevelt

Sunday, June 25, 2006 | 7:52 a.m.

President Bush's inability to reconsider any decision, his lack of any flexibility and failure to see and understand the big picture because he is confused by the small political issues that lurk around the edges of his actions, have caused our government and military to repeatedly make poor decisions.

These mistakes have cost the lives of more than 2,500 brave men and women who are trying to succeed using a plan that is doomed to fail.

I also would like to pass along the words of one of our greatest presidents, Republican Theodore Roosevelt, on the subject of criticism of a sitting president:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
