How do you come into a debate as the only impeached and convicted state officeholder in history and not be the focus of the attacks? Controller Kathy Augustine tried to deflect the questions about her impeachment on "Face to Face" on Friday and did as well as she could. But it was businessman Mark DeStefano, the GOP front-runner, who was pounded by Augustine and unknown Joseph Pitts for a business license deficiency, a bankruptcy and his residency scam when he ran for regent. DeStefano parried well at times, not so well at others, sticking to a script about a charity he runs and his good works. DeStefano still has most of the money and a superior campaign team. But the Democrats have to like this.
