Letter: Pump isn’t the only place America pays for gas

I am tired of the argument that Americans are not really paying too much for gasoline, because motorists in other countries have been paying much more for a long time. The arguments coming from the oil company officials "run out of gas" when we realize that, in order to calculate what we are really paying, we must figure in the billions of dollars our government spends on foreign policy related to the Middle East.

Those billions are our money, the taxpayers, and they have been going abroad to artificially keep the price of oil at a respectable level for us to use and use and use. Now that the price at the pump is soaring, it can be argued that we Americans are paying top dollar for our driving habits.
