FLASHPOINT for Jun 20, 2006

Democrats, sensing campaign traction with the culture of corruption angle, are trying to tie as many Republicans to the baggage carried by California Rep. Jerry Lewis, the House Appropriations chairman. Lewis is the target of an influence-peddling probe and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee pummeled Rep. Jon Porter on Monday, demanding he return $43,000 he received from Lewis. OK, par for the course. Except this is no ordinary course. You see, Lewis is almost an honorary Nevada congressman, the recipient of Nevada campaign contributions from thankful business interests who appreciate his role in widening I-15. Will they be demanding their money back? I don't think so.
