FLASHPOINT for Jun 19, 2006

My new pal Chris Cillizza, who is a political reporter and blogger for The Washington Post, listed last week the 10 gubernatorial races most likely to cause a change in party representation. Nevada did not make the cut, but his introduction to the list was interesting. He quoted national oracle Stu Rothenberg as having "made the point that with the national environment so favorable to Democrats, Republicans will only win races in states where there are special circumstances that trump the national dynamic." So is Nevada a state with special circumstances? Is likely GOP nominee Jim Gibbons a candidate who enjoys special circumstances? I wonder what the Democrats think.
