Letter: Reid’s bill doesn’t put national security first
Saturday, June 17, 2006 | 7:43 a.m.
Sen. Harry Reid has introduced legislation that would impose oversight on the administration's Iran policy and that would tie the administration's hands during a difficult war against Islamic extremists.
It is to be assumed that Sen. Reid is well aware of what the entire world knows, that Iran is on the verge of acquiring an atomic bomb, which represents a great danger for the free world, but it appears that the senator has other priorities.
The administration has offered a generous package and is ready to talk with Iran if it stops uranium enrichment. It is a serious effort to resolve the problem diplomatically.
The U.S. was under terrorist attacks for many years, but it only woke up after the infamous crime and provocation of 9/11; the terrorists made the same mistake by underestimating our country. The U.S. needs to do all that is necessary to defend itself against the evil that is ready to use any means to hurt it as a symbol of liberty.
The victory will be ours because the majority of Americans love democracy more than politics.
Sen. Reid's desire to hamper the process and this kind of politics doesn't advance the interests of the United States or the Democratic Party.
