Letter: Inmates shouldn’t enjoy good life on death row
Saturday, June 17, 2006 | 7:43 a.m.
I realize that the death penalty is a long-standing controversy. It is favored by some and opposed by many. Many states have outlawed the death penalty.
I personally feel that in many cases, such as Scott Peterson's, life in prison without possibility of parole would be the best punishment.
But death row itself in most prisons allows the inmate to have better living conditions than the general population of inmates.
The time period for execution after sentence imposed is an average of 10 to 12 years. Ridiculous.
I just watched a program on Richard Ramirez (the infamous "Night Stalker"), who raped and murdered dozens of people in violent attacks. He sits on death row in San Quentin with a television, many pen pals, and even got married there. He's been there for 17 years. Shows no remorse whatsoever.
Something is wrong with the death sentence and execution thereof.
He deserves to die now.
