Letter: Story, photos show recruiter's plight
As the spouse of a Clark County School District employee, I recognize how iconic the photograph of Grytdahl buying candy in Kmart is in showing how educators have to dig into their own pockets for the extras to make their material more attractive. One wonders if the district reimbursed him for the purchase, especially considering that he didn't take a sit-down lunch during his one-man show. The Spartan "Clark County School District" sign shows the nearsightedness we can face in a bureaucracy.
Letter: Funding for teacher recruiting is disgraceful
In a county where hundred-dollar bills flow like water into slot machines and our casinos spend millions on four-color direct mail pieces to locals and tourists alike, not to mention megamillion-dollar ad campaigns, it is incomprehensible that not one has agreed to assist Clark County with teacher recruitment.
Letter: DUI falls under the scope of negligence
The ABI is not a liquor lobby. We are a trade association representing America's family restaurants, and are committed to the responsible serving of adult beverages.
Editorial: Garbage in, garbage out
But there is a right way and a wrong way to go about correcting the problem. Republic Services, the company that has a virtual monopoly in the Las Vegas Valley on collecting trash, chose the wrong way.

Ron Kantowski on Clark County's coaching family, the Gerbers of Green Valley High, a father-son tandem that will stand together on the Gators sideline this season
That doesn't exactly make them unique. But with five Nevada state high school championships between them, the scope of their conversation isn't limited to how badly the Detroit Lions are playing.
Silver State on the silver screen
In one short film, a man is heckled by an umbrella-wielding stranger. In another, a television writer discovers the hell of living in his own cheesy sitcom. And in another, three young men pretend to be Jewish in order to enjoy some great brisket at a Shabbat dinner.

Editorial: Bring us a leader
Meanwhile, Government Accountability Office investigators and Veterans Affairs officials testifying before Congress described this week how Nicholson and other department officials ignored warnings about the potential for such security breaches. The investigators also detailed weak management and lax rules by the VA in reviewing information security systems in the wake of last month's theft of private data of 26.5 million veterans and active-duty military personnel.

Editorial: An ill wind gathers
But the pollutants aren't coming from U.S. urban centers. They're from China, researchers say. According to a recent story by The New York Times, China's coal-burning output of soot, toxic chemicals and global-warming gases is, over the next 25 years, expected to exceed that of all industrialized countries combined.

Letter: Bush's top concern should be for troops
Precious lives are being lost every single day while Bush prioritizes topics most Americans couldn't care less about. He must deal first with the fact our heroic young men and women are being killed by cowards who use their own people as body armor. How can they possibly defend themselves against that kind of an enemy and not harm civilians?
