Letter: Same-sex marriage is an issue of ethics

Wednesday, June 14, 2006 | 7:12 a.m.

I've read the many responses over the past couple of weeks regarding the issue of same-sex marriages and those who are for and against such endeavors. I've noticed that many people have considered the subject unimportant.

However, I disagree. The reason being, America is made up of hardworking families that make moral decisions every day. When moral issues concerning the definition of the American family are involved, such issues are automatically urgent.

Another point to understand is that the issue of who one marries is an issue of morality, not ethnicity. It involves a choice, and not the color of one's skin. This should rule out the "civil rights straw man" that liberals pull in order to advance their gay agenda. Homosexuality is not a civil right. It's an ethical choice regarding moral decisions.

Christians and conservatives are not opposing gay people; it's their sexual choices that they oppose. No one is bashing gays or beating them physically. Also, gays have their right to vote, bear firearms, freedom of speech, etc. The real question is what is right ethically and what is wrong ethically concerning sexual choices and lifestyles?
