Regarding the June 11 column by Jay Bookman, "Home Despot":
How sad that after Jeffrey Skilling and Kenneth Lay were found guilty of fleecing their company, Home Depot Chief Executive Bob Nardelli was able to reap $250 million in pay, benefits, perks and stock options.
What did Nardelli do to merit this package? He missed the company sales projection that he set by $19.5 billion and Home Depot stock has declined under Nardelli. He is indeed an arrogant despot who is a disgrace as a chief executive.
Is Nardelli any better than Skilling and Lay, who brought ruin to their company? The board of directors, which controls executive compensation, and Nardelli should be put out to pasture. When will it end?
