Letter: Bush needs to realize war is serious matter

The Sun published a great letter from Don McDonald on June 10, "Bush deserving of every criticism he's getting":
Everybody makes mistakes occasionally, but Bush abuses the privilege. After all, he is the president. He surrounds himself with advisers, then gets up in front of the cameras and gives us his famous smirk, as if to say, "Look what I'm getting away with now." Then he starts spouting his rhetoric in front of a select audience that cheers him on cue.
Bob Herbert's article on June 10, "Sadness of war in Iraq eclipsed only by its meaningless," brings tears to my eyes. We are in an unwinnable situation. We take the moral high ground in regard to the killing of civilians while trying to fight insurgents - hiding behind women and children - who are shooting at our boys.
What are our guys supposed to do, tell the women and children to duck so they can get a clear shot at these cowards? There is no easy answer. We don't want to sink to their level. It could be time to pull out. We can't change the world. How high does the casualty rate have to get?
Remember the little lead soldiers? Why don't we send a big box of them to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest of them, send them all to Camp David, and let them play war.
