Letter: Definition of marriage not up for debate
Monday, June 12, 2006 | 7:22 a.m.
Sen. Ted Kennedy from Massachusetts believes that attempting to limit the sanctity of marriage to a man and woman is an act of bigotry.
If we expand the term marriage to other segments of our society we will further erode the traditional family unit. As you know, the traditional family unit has been under severe attack for years by the movie industry, television and newsprint.
A lot of people say this should be a states' rights issue instead of a constitutional amendment change. I could go along with this contention when states vote to retain marriage as between a man and woman. It should be understood that these laws are not to be overturned at some later time by some liberal judge or appeals court.
Noah Webster would turn over in his grave if he would be able to see how we have redefined many words in the dictionary to satisfy our social changes and self-indulgences.
