Letter: A nuclear Iran is something to fear
Wednesday, June 7, 2006 | 7:38 a.m.
This is in response to James J. Poupard of Henderson, who wrote about what a grave mistake invading Iran would be. He raised some valid points, but has he even given a thought about the other side of the coin?
The United States (and a lot of other countries) is worried about Iran becoming nuclear capable. What does he think they will do with nuclear reactors? Use it to light their homes? Last time I checked they have enough of that black stuff in the ground to last them about what, 100, 200 years? No one can tell me they won't produce nuclear weapons of their own.
Allowing a terrorist nation to arm itself with nuclear weapons is also an invitation for World War III. Yet, he did not mention that at all in his letter. And don't say they are not a terrorist nation. The picture printed right above his letter talks about Iranian men who have pledged to become suicide bombers.
Then he mentions most of the Arab oil-producing nations aligning themselves against the West. I hate to break this to him, but they already have. Has he checked the pump prices lately? And he can't blame the oil companies for everything because if oil export was doubled, oil companies would be forced to lower prices or face grand jury after grand jury investigations. The U.S. came to the aid of one of our Arab allies and this is the thanks we get.
He does remember this is the same country that held his fellow countrymen hostage for 444 days? I remember seeing pictures of Iranians carrying garbage in American flags. They hate us and everything we stand for. Seeing a nation like this being allowed to develop nuclear weapons, now that sends chills up and down my spine.
