Letter: Invading Iran would be a grave mistake

As I heard the news that President Bush wishes to negotiate with Iran, a chill ran down my spine. Not because it is a diplomatic thing to negotiate, but that Bush has placed pre-conditions upon his participation. As I thought about what would happen, Iran's reaction was as I thought, saying it is only propaganda.

The Bush regime continues to state that all options will be on the table, including, God forbid, military action. With the war record of the Bush regime, I shudder at the prospect of him invading Iran or even bombing them.

The repercussions would be enormous. Iran has a modern military with 140,000 troops on the Iraq/Iran border that could be deployed in Iraq in short order. Iran would undoubtedly retaliate with a strike against Israel and the Middle East would erupt into World War III within a matter of hours, in my view. Since Iran is an important oil-producing country, it could hold all of its customer nations hostage by cutting off our oil supply.

Given that horrendous thought, most of the Arab oil-producing countries would probably coalesce with Iran against the West. Since the Bush regime has inflamed Venezuela President Chavez against us, the coup would be complete. Our stock market would collapse in just days and our economy would be in tatters.

Enter China. China is a growing economy building upon Americans buying their products, and they would be ecstatic in getting the oil we were getting from the Middle East, pre-Iran invasion.

Doesn't this scenario send chills up and down your spine like it does for me?
