Only one candidate for state treasurer is on TV right now and I bet you can't guess who it is. No, not Mark DeStefano, the guy with money. No, not Controller Kathy Augustine, the woman with ambition. And, no, not Kate Marshall, the Democrat who is loving the DeStefano-Augustine tussle. It's Geoffrey VanderPal, Marshall's little-known, but sign-happy primary opponent. It's a minuscule buy - about $2,500. But there's something quite groundbreaking about the purchase. VanderPal has bought time on The Food Network, of all places. Now why in the world would TFN viewers be interested in the state treasurer race? Maybe VanderPal figures they count calories so they care about numbers?
