Letter: Fight flap is just a GOP distraction
Saturday, June 3, 2006 | 7:40 a.m.
Recently much has been made about Sen. Harry Reid accepting free tickets to several boxing matches. What this issue amounts to is "much ado about nothing." No other event in Las Vegas brings in more revenue than a fight night. It is in the city's best interest that the sport thrive.
It is critical that the explosive amounts of revenue that are generated during these events continue to funnel into our economy. I challenge you to ask any person who works in a casino when the busiest times are. You will hear New Year's, the Super Bowl, Memorial Day weekend and, without a doubt, fight night.
Also, how did this supposedly affect Sen. Reid's actions in the Senate? I haven't heard anyone even try to claim that it has! Add to the fact that the organization that provided the tickets to Sen. Reid is a Nevada state government body. You have to ask yourself, why is this such a big deal?
It is a big deal because the Republican Party is becoming desperate - and that's why I have been volunteering my time to support the Democratic Party - to turn our attention away from things that really matter, including but not limited to the assault on our Constitution, our failures in Iraq, real ethics problems, and the president's ever-sinking poll numbers.
I would say to the Republican Party, "Guess what? We haven't forgotten any of this, or the fact that it is just the Republican Party in control right now. Not Harry Reid."
