Letter: No need to put redistricting on a fast track
Saturday, July 22, 2006 | 7:48 a.m.
In response to the proposed redistricting of the city of Las Vegas' Ward 1, which is where I live: The whole rushed process leaves a lot to be desired.
The constituents / voters don't really have the opportunity to give input. The City Council's meeting on the issue is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, when many people are at work and cannot attend.
First, there should be "town hall" type meetings in the ward so residents can voice their concerns. They should be scheduled at a more convenient time so more residents can attend. People could then view the maps showing the proposed redistricting.
Why is the City Council in such a hurry to pass this very controversial redistricting?
