FLASHPOINT for Jul 14, 2006

So the Democrats are all atwitter about their bulging advantage in Congressional District 3. How bulging? 1,200 votes. Considering there are 280,000 registered Democrats and Republicans in Jon Porter's district, that doesn't sound too significant. But trends can be important in politics and just three months ago the Democrats, as they have been since the district was created in 2002, were behind. And considering that the swing has affected key legislative districts in that area, the trend should not be ignored. If Democrat Tessa Hafen, whose fundraising numbers will be fairly robust when the reports are disclosed in a few days, can get in the game and capitalize on any national wave, those numbers could loom larger.
