Letter: Consequences come with musicians’ words

Sunday, July 9, 2006 | 7:39 a.m.

Regarding the recent letters from Tom Harper and Joelene Smith defending the Dixie Chicks, the music group's members are Americans and can say what they want to say.

The problem appears to be that the members of the Dixie Chicks don't quite grasp the term "consequences." Just as they have the right to speak out, I have the right not to spend money on their albums or concerts. I don't like them anymore for their bad manners in going to another country and criticizing the American president. Their remark was not in answer to a news reporter's question, it was apropos of nothing. It was like a little kid visiting the neighbors and telling all his family's business - an embarrassment.

Apparently, a large number of people think as I do, for the Dixie Chicks' U.S. tour did not sell enough tickets to go forward as planned and they are directing their efforts elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure Jane Fonda understands the term "consequences" of your actions. Maybe the Dixie Chicks could get her to explain it to them.
