Letter: If you want more teachers, pay more money
Thursday, July 6, 2006 | 7:26 a.m.
There's no mystery to the teacher shortage - we simply don't start our teachers at a high enough salary. Los Angeles starts its teachers at $43,000 and Clark County starts ours at $33,000.
Compare this to our police recruits with a high school diploma who start at $45,000, while our teachers need a bachelor's degree to get their meager salary.
Our governor and our legislators have to pony up enough funds to raise teacher salaries, not only in Clark County but also around the state.
Why should Nevada be an educational wasteland?
