Letter: Bush’s list of failures too long to number
Monday, July 3, 2006 | 7:30 a.m.
Regarding F. Jay Harrell's July 1 letter, in which he criticizes Justice John Paul Stevens and the highest court of the nation for its Guantanamo ruling: Let us not forget that the current Supreme Court is in fact a conservative judiciary as a result of Mr. Bush's most recent nominations.
So it is not Justice Stevens alone, but the court which has upheld the values of a democratic society that George Bush has been trying to undermine, Guantanamo being only one example, in the name of national defense.
Insofar as we Americans being "fortunate" to have elected Bush, it seems to me that only those who are blinded by the most radical jingoism would begin to consider this president a good example of anything other than failure in almost every way - far too many ways, in any case, to enumerate here.
In November, Berkeley, Calif., will put a question on its ballot asking voters about impeachment proceedings for the president. We should be this intelligent and progressive in Las Vegas, for Bush deserves nothing less than recognition of the ills he has visited upon our country.
