Letter: Supreme Court decision weakens America
Saturday, July 1, 2006 | 8:10 a.m.
Thursday's Supreme Court decision to handcuff America during the Global War against Terrorism puts an exclamation point on why America is so fortunate to have elected a man like G.W. Bush to a second term. Hopefully John P. Stevens (the most liberal justice and the justice who wrote Thursday's decision, which I believe is a "Terrorist Bill of Rights") will step down before '08 so President Bush can appoint a solid conservative to the bench.
The law of unintended consequences (for the ACLU and their ilk) applies in this case. Until now, our warriors have captured terrorists on the battlefield, sent them to Gitmo and interrogated them to get information necessary to save American lives (both on the battlefield and at home) with the intent of eventually giving them a trial.
Thursday's Supreme Court decision will result in a change in tactics. In the future, terrorists captured on the battlefield will be interrogated and then dispatched to their meeting with Allah and the virgins. Unfortunately, more of our warriors will die on the battlefield and civilians at home will eventually die when the next attack occurs because we couldn't get additional information. The U.S. courts and prison system will be tied up for years giving "fair" trials and "three hots and a cot" to terrorists.
The mainstream media is touting this decision as a defeat for President Bush, but it is a defeat for America. I guess our warriors will have to quit taking prisoners and hopefully President Bush will get the opportunity to appoint at least one more Supreme Court justice!
