Letter: Health is the real issue with smoking

Walter E. Gunther's Jan. 26 letter, "Let's ban smoking in all public places," is quite the strong opinion.

I am a nonsmoker and would prefer that all smoking was done outside and not in enclosed buildings as well, but Gunther calls smokers the most nervous people in the world.

The world is a rather large place. Does he really think that statement is true? And he calls smokers the biggest slobs. Isn't that a little stereotypical?

Perhaps we should avoid the name-calling and focus on the key point at hand -- passing legislation that would have them smoke outside.

The real point is the health issue of being subjected to smoke. Smoking is extremely unhealthy and secondhand smoke is proven to be even unhealthier to those standing nearby. What more reason is needed?

We can argue points and opinions all day long, but the health issue is the key factor. Therefore, smoking should not be allowed in enclosed areas.
