Letter: There must be a better way to protect kids
Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 | 7:52 a.m.
Margaret A. Cassidy, in her Jan. 24 letter about the girl recently found dead in a garbage bin, wrote the following: "The only thing that I am certain about is that she is warm and happy now in heaven. I hope the monster that did this will end up in hell. I still will ask forever: How could you?"
This is a thought on the hearts and minds of many: How could someone hurt an innocent child?
How many babies are thrown away that we will never find? How can we stop this? I know she is in heaven, but why did she suffer needlessly while on Earth?
What about the children who are being beaten and abused this very moment? Not by strangers but by parents, the ones they look to for protection. My heart more than weeps for them and I can't sit back any longer -- something needs to be done.
I want to see these children safe. Don't ignore this, don't sit back and wait for someone else to do it. Pray about it and answer the call when God asks you to help. Reach out.
I am searching for ways to put an end to this violence. It won't be easy, but doors will open and foundations can be started. We can find a way if we work together.
