Letter: Smokers who pack casinos are rude

Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 | 7:29 a.m.

While relaxing in a casino, people may drink alcohol, take prescription drugs or overeat while dining. The public does not unwittingly partake in those activities. When people smoke the cigarette drug, and it is a drug, however, the public is automatically forced to inhale with them. Not to mention the effect cigarette smoke has on other people's eyes, skin and clothing.

Clearly, I believe that the smoking habit that many people have should not be allowed to affect my life. Only because tobacco is legal are smokers allowed to force their vile habit onto others.

But smokers needn't worry. I'm sure the casinos will continue to welcome them, as they tend to be "sitters" and will play the machines and tables all day long, rewarding themselves with a fresh cigarette when they win a hand.

To add insult to injury, smokers are downright rude in their social skills. They often intentionally sit next to nonsmokers without regard to their rights. "Do you mind if I smoke?" would be a courtesy question that they could ask.

I do mind, especially when smokers are toting oxygen tanks, as that further endangers my life. Talk about a smoking gun. And might I ask why smokers' ashes are everywhere?
