Letter: Too steep a price to pay for progress
Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 | 7:52 a.m.
Here we go again. The battle cry of the land destroyers are at the gates of "Red Rock" again. Dig up every inch of land at the vacated gypsum mine property.
Drive more native animals off the land they have called home for thousands of years. Who cares about Las Vegas residents who go to "Red Rock" to get away from the crush of humanity, to spend a few hours in a quiet and peaceful paradise.
Let them look at countless homes, streets, traffic signs, cars -- that's progress. What a horrendous price we're paying for progress in Las Vegas and many other parts of this once beautiful country.
I wish I'd have lived a few centuries ago to see what this country looked like before the white land destroyers left Europe. It must have been a sight to behold. I believe present day American Indians have that image buried deep down into their very souls.
