Letter: Dems didn’t take Abramoff’s money

I was upset on reading of Congresswoman Shelley Berkley returning $500 to the chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in California, simply because they were represented by Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Impressionable people may surmise that somehow Democrats are involved in this bribery scandal, when the fact is that Mr. Abramoff never gave any money directly to any congressional Democrat, but made all of his contributions to Republicans who are in control of Congress, as well as to President Bush.

I know Ms. Berkley means well, but I hope her return of this money doesn't give people the wrong impression. This is a Republican scandal -- it was the Republicans who took the money from Abramoff, not Ms. Berkley or other Democrats.
