Letter: Roadwork must catch up to development

Anyone who has driven Las Vegas Boulevard south of Warm Springs Road lately is keenly aware that the traffic situation is in gridlock. Traffic was heavy before the opening of the South Coast casino, which is about two blocks south of where I live, but it is horrendous now.
At the present time, between Wigwam Parkway and Cactus Avenue, there are at least four applications before the Clark County Commission for residential buildings in excess of 300 feet high. Each of these buildings will have at least 400 to more than 500 residences.
While we local residents are opposed to all of these high-rise residences, we see the handwriting on the wall. It is inevitable that we will one day be completely surrounded by buildings that tower high over us. However, the timing of these high-rise buildings conflicts with the yet-to-be commenced road improvements.
All residents of the south valley need to convince the County Commission to place a moratorium on any future high-rise buildings until the traffic infrastructure is completed. Las Vegas Boulevard simply must be widened from Serene Avenue to St. Rose Parkway.
