Flashpoint for Jan. 4, 2006
Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 | 7:30 a.m.
Superlatives are so often misused and overused. But as 2006 begins, I believe this is going to be the best, most interesting year since I started covering politics here 20 years ago. A governor's race that has major donors quaking with indecision. Six open constitutional offices. County Commission elections against a backdrop of ex-county commissioners on trial. Two initiatives -- TASC and Prop 13 -- that could forever change the state. The ascension to the second most powerful legislative position by the woman who could become the most powerful woman in state political history -- Barbara Buckley. Don't tell the boss, but I should be paying him this year.
