Letter: Unlucky 7 phases of Bush’s incompetence

In reply to F.J. Harrell's Feb. 20 letter, "Bush not perfect, but better than alternatives," it sounds like Mr. Harrell was trying to justify a vote for the most incompetent presidential administration in history.

No. 1 in President Bush's litany of miscues is the fiasco in Iraq, which has cost thousands of U.S. troops, thousands of dead innocent civilians and hundreds of billions in taxpayer funds wasted.

No. 2 is the president's incompetent foreign policy, which has left the free world without a respected leader to deal with Russia, China and other despots in the world.

No. 3 are tax cuts for the rich and giveaways to the oil companies, HMOs and pharmaceutical companies. He has squandered the surplus he inherited from President Clinton and put us in trillions of dollars in debt.

No. 4 is the way he appointed cronies and incompetents who screwed up hurricane relief and the new drug program, which is a fiasco.

No. 5 is the energy policy that turns the energy giants loose on the American people to price gouge and exploit the consumers.

No. 6 is the failure to get Osama bin Laden, increasing chances of another attack. As of today, no one has been tried and convicted for the 9/11 attack.

Finally, No. 7 is ... I can't think of one thing Bush has done in five years to make this a better country. I guess Mr. Harrell forgot the eight years of peace and prosperity during the Clinton years.
