There was something missing from Saturday night's Lincoln Day dinner put on by the Clark County Republican Party at the Venetian. No, not candidates - the room was teeming with them. No, not speeches - there were plenty of them, albeit none from the gubernatorial contenders. What was missing is what is essential to any successful political affair - humor. From Attorney General George Chanos to Gov. Kenny Guinn to Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, these guys don't have a funny bone among them. Come on, guys. Crack a joke, make a pun, slip in a wry comment. Sure, it's good to give the faithful some red meat. But without seasoning, it's pretty bland.
