Letter: Drug testing good for everyone or no one

The recent incident involving our vice president compels me to write. I note that the police officer involved did not believe Mr. Cheney was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Nothing was mentioned about an actual drug test. Why are we discriminating against our citizens on drug testing?

Workers applying for a job at Wal-Mart and other stores must undergo a drug test. All union construction workers are required to undergo drug testing on a continuing basis. In the event of an accident on the job, a blood test is the first business at hand unless the injury is truly life-threatening. In that case, workers are tested when stable. A blood test is even conducted if he or she dies.

It should be equally important that doctors, lawyers, Cabinet members, members of Congress and, yes, even the president and vice president, be drug tested on a continuing basis. In addition, everyone involved in an accident should be tested or none of us should.
