Flashpoint for Feb. 18, 2006

Imagine a Carson City world where Jones Vargas lobbyists couldn't just wander into the office of Jones Vargas lawyer and Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio. Imagine Adele's being empty because no lobbyist could pay for a meal for any willing legislators. Imagine serious, five-figure fines for lobbyists who did not report meeting with public officials and had to report which client they were representing and how much they were being paid. Can you hear the panic, folks? That's what would happen if the Gang of 63 adopted the rules that New York City is considering in the wake of the Jack Abramoff scandal and the attendant attention to reform. It could happen here next. Maybe even this millennium.
