FALLEN U.S. TROOPS

Since the war in Iraq began in 2003, 2,269 American troops have died in an Associated Press tally. The latest identifications reported by the military: Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Nicholas Wilson, 25, of Newark Valley, N.Y., died Sunday as a result of an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Three, San Diego. Two Marines died Thursday from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Fallujah, Iraq. Killed were: Pfc. Javier Chavez Jr., 19, of Cutler, Calif. Cpl. Ross A. Smith, 21, of Wyoming, Mich. They were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. During Operation Iraqi Freedom their unit is attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
