Letter: Thankful for our police officers

My heart goes out to Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Henry Prendes and his family. I have no sympathy for his killer. As the population of Las Vegas expands, we can expect more of these tragedies.

We are fighting terrorists abroad and also in this country. Officer Prendes' killer is no different than a foreign terrorist firing an assault rifle in Iraq. What would this country be without police protection?

I dare say we have more police officers in America than we have in our military forces. Without them no amount of locks or alarms would keep us safe in our own homes. We would have to arm ourselves to stay alive.

My hat is off to every man and woman who wears the badge. We need them as much as the air we breathe. God save us from American and foreign terrorists.
