Speed Reading: NASCAR’s preseason thunder

1. What happened: Carl Edwards (170.778) and Kasey Kahne (170.374) turned the two fastest laps of the three-day test Wednesday morning as 29 drivers took part in the final day of testing in preparation for the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season.

2. What didn't happen: No state legislators or other elected officials were spotted in track owner Bruton Smith's private suite during the final day of Nextel Cup testing.

3. Best paint job: Kurt Busch's No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge. Even when Rusty Wallace drove it, it carried fewer contingency decals on the fenders than most other Cup cars.

4. Worst paint job: The mottled orange-on-gray primer job on Tony Stewart's No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet. Looks like his car has a rash.

5. Quote of the day: "I'm definitely very, very jealous of him right now because I definitely want that watch real bad." -- Tony Stewart on Casey Mears, who has been showing off the Rolex watch he received for being a part of the team that won the Rolex 24 at Daytona last weekend.
