Letter: Miss Nevada tells it like it is
From Gov. Kenny Guinn to good old boy Sen. Harry Reid, they completely ignore the fact that they've been a part of the whole issue from the beginning and haven't supported any alternative. You don't spend the funds from users and federal funds (tax dollars) for this period of time and then politically decide it's a bad idea.
Letter: Keep to your area if smoke bothers you
As a smoker, I have my rights in the smoking area. I do not need nonsmokers sitting down beside me (when they see me smoking) and start waving their hands around.
Letter: School District lacks checks and balances
Efficiency is only attainable by having checks and balances in their proper perspectives. This is where I believe the Clark County School District is coming up short in the education of the students. I do not believe the proper checks and balances can be attained at present.
Letter: Be careful what you wish for, Mr. President
In Iraq, the people voted for a majority of Shiites who are loyal to the Iranian Muslim clerics. In Iran, they went overwhelmingly for a strong anti-American radical. And now in the Palestinian territory, still under the occupation of Israel for 38 years, the real laugher is the landslide victory of the Hamas.

Columnist Tom Gorman:Trying to keep pace with Mayor Oscar Goodman during a brisk walk to promote fitness at the Doolittle Senior Center
Tuesday morning I went on a walk with the mayor of Las Vegas and he didn't stop even once at a bar. I'd say he even walked in a straight line, except that he was on a path that curved a lot, and he navigated it perfectly.
Flashpoint for Feb. 1, 2006
So what does it REALLY mean, the Nevada State Education Association's endorsement of gubernatorial hopeful Dina Titus? It means a lot of things. It means that loyalty is rewarded - Titus has been with the teachers ever since she came to Carson City. It means there was no compelling reason that Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson gave - or could give, probably - for NSEA to abandon Titus. It means bodies - NSEA has 24,000 members, and at least half are Democrats and most are registered to vote. That has to help, even if only a quarter of them turn out ...
Columnist Jon Ralston: Trying to sort through the double talk that would-be secretary of state Brian Scroggins has gone on record with regarding campaign fundraising
Brian Scroggins had better be careful or the would-be secretary of state might develop a slight credibility problem.

Editorial: Bush's state of the union
Many of the themes from the speech, particularly on staying the course in the war in Iraq, didn't chart new ground. Much of the address devoted to domestic policy contained refrains we have heard before, too, including a call for making permanent his tax cuts that are due to expire -- despite federal deficits that have grown exponentially since he became president.
