Letter: Voters sent Bush a clear message
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 | 7:10 a.m.
The voters punished President Bush and his Republican Party for the original sin of provoking a war without reason and without cause by cynically capitalizing on the wounds of 9/11.
The message was so unmistakable that it got through even to the notoriously dense president.
Five years after 9/11, voters have finally rejected Bush's insistence on equating the war in Iraq with the war on terror. Among Bush's many ignorant statements, the one statement that demonstrated the president's lack of knowledge and his hate of opposition was his statement that a vote for Democrats was a vote for terrorists.
But this past election, the people refused to swallow such nonsense. Unfortunately in Iraq, the United States has no options it can control other than "stay in" or "get out."
