Letter: Constitution, not the Quran, is the issue
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 | 7:10 a.m.
I cannot believe the ignorance and hypocrisy of some so-called educated people. In the news this past week, we heard Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., criticizing an incoming member of Congress, Democrat Keith Ellison of Minnesota, of being the bad guy of this country because Ellison wants to use the Quran at his ceremonial swearing-in. So what?
Here is an elected official, Goode, who is supposed to know the U.S. Constitution and abide by its laws, saying negative things about another official exercising his constitutional rights as an American citizen. I wonder if this congressman, who is against someone reading a different religious book, knows anything about our Constitution at all.
If Goode is not sure, he should read up on it before he is sworn in. He may not like it, and if he doesn't, he should reconsider being in Congress. Oh, by the way, I was raised as a Christian. I hope I am not crucified by others who say they believe in God.
