Letter: McCain’s time has come and gone

Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 | 7:23 a.m.

Do you have a family member in his 70s? How does he handle life's daily grind? Are they physically and mentally able to keep up anymore?

The reason I ask is that Sen. John McCain was born on Aug. 29, 1936, and is now 70 years old. In 2008 he will be 72, and if elected to the presidency, he would be 76 at the conclusion of his first term.

I would suggest that he is simply too old for the difficult decisions and stress that our presidents face. Sen. McCain has served his country extremely well, and he would have been the ideal candidate in 2000, but time has unfortunately passed him by, and a younger, more vigorous candidate should be selected.
